Babies, Animals, Beautiful People and Recall Scores
Why do we stop to look at babies, animals, and beautiful people? It has to do with evolutionary psychology.
We're programmed to protect and nurture vulnerable babies. We take notice of animals, as they once threatened our daily existence. We gawk at beautiful people because we want to work with them, so to speak, to carry on the species.
It's why we see TV commercials that feature infants offering investment advice, lizards and ducks selling insurance, and Catherine Zeta-Jones hawking cell phone service.
Is the use of these well-worn techniques smart, or cynical, or lazy? Some would answer, never mind, they work.
